The Kick Serve!

Posted by shashank in

The last time I played tennis with my UF friend Srikant, the rapid change in the weather (or perhaps the tiring set with him[7-6]) resulted in me falling ill. That was a few weeks back. So it was quite refreshing to start playing once again with Avdhut.

Hit quite a few double handed backhands, only one went really fast. The main improvement was the kick serves that I hit today. 3 of them really befuddled Avdhut, and that is to say something, as it is very rare to get past Avdhut with spin alone.

Plus points: 1. Good Spin 2. Confusing trajectory
Need to improve on: 1. Power and accuracy (a lot of kick serves went into the net) 2. Grip Grip Grip - the fyb guy on youtube advised me to try eastern backhand grip for the kick serve. But I am not quite getting the hang of it. Whenever the grip felt right the serve went good and spun a lot. But I am not able to formalize it i.e. I cannot recall how exactly I held the racket when the serve went good. The following is the video copying which really helped a lot:
